It's important to eat healthy to prevent disease and maintain a healthy weight. A healthy and balanced diet includes eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat or fat-free dairy. You should also select lean sources of protein such as beans, poultry, fish, eggs and nuts. Try to eat less food that is high in saturated fat, trans fat, sodium (salt), cholesterol and added sugar. Your nutrition needs depend on your body size, how much muscle you have, how much activity you do, and your age. If you have any conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes, you'll also have special nutrition considerations to keep in mind.
