CONCERT IN PARK SERIES KICKS OFF WITH ZYDECO PERFORMANCE

FORT MYERS, Fla. (October 26, 2000) – Lee County Parks & Recreation is kicking off its annual Concert in the Park Series at Three Oaks Community Park, Saturday, November 18, with one of the top Zydeco bands in the country.

Chubby Carrier and the Swamp Bayou Band from New Orleans will be the featured act. The opening soloist will be Caribbean Nicholas on steel pans. The concert is scheduled to run from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The concert series is free and soda, beer and food vendors are on site. Coolers are not allowed into the event.

Three (3) concerts are planned for this season’s series. Past concerts typically have drawn between 1,500 and 2,000 people. Sponsors this year include San Carlos Park Sunshine Ace Hardware, radio station B103.9, WM. Thies & Sons Inc., Vanderbilt Inn on the Gulf, Bill Vernay Movers, and the San Carlos Park Optimist Club.

Three Oaks Community Park is located at 18251 Three Oaks Parkway just south of Alico Road in the Three Oaks/San Carlos Park community. The park has baseball fields, bike/jogging trails, picnic tables, shelters and grills, a playground and racquet ball courts.

Lee County’s Parks & Recreation Department maintains and operates 3,500 acres of developed park land, 14 centers, 10 pools, five boat ramps, three Gulf beach parks, one lakefront beach, 76 beach accesses, 60 tennis courts, 73 ballfields, and 13 preserves. The department’s fiscal year 2000 operating budget was $15.2 million.
