CAUSEWAY DRAWBRIDGE REPAIRS TO DELAY NIGHTLY TRAFFIC

FORT MYERS, Fla. (October 2, 2000) – Nighttime traffic across the Sanibel Causeway Drawbridge will be restricted for the next several nights between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. to allow for repairs to the fendering system beneath the bridge.

The repairs are needed to fix damage after a barge hit the bridge several weeks ago. Traffic at nighttime could be delayed up to 30 minutes at a time as the bridge is raised to allow for a crane to replace pilings directly under the bridge. The delays could last up to 10 nights. There also may be delays for large boats traveling beneath the bridge.

The bridge tender will watch for emergency vehicles and stop construction work long enough for them to pass.
