FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 6, 2002) – Lee County
wants to find out how much citizens know about Fair Housing laws.
The county’s Office of
Equal Opportunity is conducting a survey through June 30 to gauge the public’s
understanding of Fair Housing laws. The
survey results will be used as a starting point to begin community outreach,
training and public information efforts on the subject.
The survey is available at
all public library locations, Clerk of Court Offices, other public buildings
around the county, or can be requested from the Equal Opportunity Office.
It also can be printed off the office’s web site at www.lee-county.com/equalopp.
Surveys should be returned to the Equal Opportunity Office either by fax
(335-2262), e-mail (cjohnson-stevens@leegov.com)

The Lee County Office
of Equal Opportunity handles employment,
public accommodation,
and housing
discrimination complaints at the county level.
It is the local equivalent to Florida’s Commission on Human Relations
and the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Through outreach
and education, the office strives to stop discrimination before it starts by
increasing awareness in the community about discrimination laws and what
businesses need to do to comply with them.
Information on fair
housing is of particular interest in Lee County, which has one of the hottest
housing and tourism markets in the nation, with many residents employed in real
estate and the hotel/motel industry.
