NEW CHAIR GUIDES LEE COUNTY TOURIST DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
LEE COUNTY, FL (January 9, 2004) – The Lee County Board of County Commissioners
(BOCC) has appointed Commissioner John Albion as chairman of the Tourist
Development Council (TDC) effective today.
Commissioner Albion returns to the TDC having chaired it in 1994,
2000, and 2001.
In addition to the TDC responsibilities, he also serves as chairman of the County Commission and the Port Authority, chairman and board liaison to the Affordable Housing Committee, the Lee County Fair Board, the Regional Planning Council, and the Horizon Council.
In 1984, he received his bachelor’s degree in government from Centre
College in Kentucky. A licensed real estate broker with Safe-T Realty, Albion
was director of operations for Safe-T Storage for eight years.
Elected to the BOCC in 1992, 1996, and 2000, his dedication to community service
has included serving as board member and past president of the Greater Fort
Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, chairman for the Fort Myers Beach United Way
campaign, chairman of the Fort Myers Beach Quality of Life Committee, and past
president of the Uncommon Friends Foundation. Currently, Albion serves on the
FGCU Resort and Hospitality Advisory Board and is honorary board member of Big
Brothers/Big Sisters.
Commissioner Albion replaces TDC Chairman Ray Judah. The nine-member TDC was established by the BOCC in 1983 to increase off-season tourism.
