BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL CLINICS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN THIS WEEKEND

 
The Lee County Sports Authority has teamed up with the Lee County Parks and Recreation Department, the Minnesota Twins and the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) to host ten clinics through February 14th, 2004.
 
Up first is the annual Minnesota Twins Community Fund Baseball and Softball Clinics beginning Saturday, January 17. The programs will focus on basic fundamentals of baseball and softball. The first hour and a half of each scheduled clinic will focus on children ages 5-9, with the second hour and a half for children ages 10-16. This is a free program. Current Minnesota Twins players and coaches assisting with the clinics will include Eric Rasmussen, Michael Cuddyer, Pete Fisher and Joe Foot. The following schedule of events has been established. All event dates are on Saturdays.

January 24 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Lehigh Acres Community Park

January 31 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Cape Coral Sports Complex

February 7 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Hancock Community Park
February 7 from 1:00 PM -4:00 PM @ Ruttenberg Community Park

Player autographs will be given after each session.
 
On another front, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), will conduct a weekend long clinic for umpires beginning Saturday, January 17, 2004. The classroom portion will be held at the Quality Inn Hotel located at 2431 Cleveland Avenue, Ft. Myers, from 8:30 AM - noon. The on-field instruction will be held at Lions Park across the street from the hotel from 1:15 PM to 4:30 PM. On Sunday, January 18th, on-field instruction will resume at Lions Park, 9:00 AM to noon. There is a $40 fee for this program. The Amateur Softball Association is the National Governing Body for the sport of softball.  Registration information can be obtained by contacting Priscilla Lane at 813-744-5595.
