CAUSEWAY SURVEYS TO HELP DETERMINE DRIVER HABITS

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 8, 2004) - Transportation surveys will be distributed to drivers at the Sanibel Causeway Toll Facility on Wednesday and Saturday to help guage driver habits and what impact a change in toll structure would have on those habits.

The mail-in surveys ask drivers about frequency, purpose and type of payment program they use for trips across the Sanibel Causeway. The questions are designed to determine driver "elasticity," meaning what percentage of drivers would alter their trips based on a change in toll or toll structure.

The information is used as part of the county's financing decisions.
