Fort Myers, Florida, 4/1/04—Lee County Animal Services is joining animal organizations world wide for Pet Adopt-a-thon 2004. On May 1st from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, the agency will offer discounts on pet adoptions to help place as many homeless pets with new families as possible. New owners may take home a dog or puppy for only $50 (regularly $65) or a cat or kitten for only $40 (regularly $50).
This year Animal Services will offer a fun-filled day for families and pets. In addition to the many wonderful pets for adoption, attendees can enjoy a luau atmosphere with food, refreshments, and music. They can also bring their current family dog along for a romp through the Animal Services’ agility course or try it out with a new pet!
Lee County Animal Services takes in almost 14,000 animals each year. As the county’s government operated shelter, it cannot turn animals away even when the facility is at capacity. Therefore, the agency is faced with the task of finding homes for nearly 13,000 pets each year that are not claimed by their owners. Pet Adoptathon 2004 is a chance to match as many homeless, but wonderful pets, as possible with new families!
All pet adoptions include spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations appropriate for the pet’s age, flea treatment, worming, a nationally registered Microchip ID, two free months of pet insurance, heartworm test for dogs 6 months or older, feline leukemia and aids test for cats, and county license for pets three months or older. This represents over a $400 value just for the veterinary services!
