Sports Events Will Keep Area Sports Facilities Busy
Over Memorial Day Weekend
Lee County will host five different sporting events over the upcoming holiday
weekend, giving a tourism boost to area hotels and increasing the region's
image as a premiere sports destination.
First up will be the Gulf Coast Swim Team Spring Invitational Meet to be held
at the Lee County FGCU Aquatic Center. Swim teams from across Florida will
compete in this inaugural event, with over 200 swimmers participating in the
event. The meet will be held on Friday May 28 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Saturday and
Sunday, between the hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Questions regarding this

Next up will be Roy Hobbs Co-ed baseball tournament to be held at the Red Sox
Minor League Complex (5-Plex) on Edison Avenue. The dates will be Saturday and
Sunday May 28-29, from 9:00 AM to 5 :00 PM each day. For detailed information

The AAU Girls Basketball Super Regionals will also be held on Friday, Saturday
and Sunday, May 28-30, at the following gymnasiums: Evangelical Christian
School, Bishop Verot High School, Ft. Myers Middle School, Dunbar High School,
Diplomat Middle School and Cypress Lake High School. This event will have
approximately forty teams from Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, Maryland and
Kansas. Games will be played on Friday from 5-11 PM, Saturday from 8 AM to 11
PM and Sunday from 8 AM to 4 PM. At least seven local teams will be
participating in this event. Questions regarding this event should be directed

Yet another event will be the Kelme Memorial Day Soccer Classic, to be held on
Saturday and Sunday, May 29-30, at Kelly Road Soccer Complex. Ten of the best
Florida based collegiate teams will battle it out over the holiday weekend.

Rounding out the events will be the USSSA Florida State Baseball Championships
to be held at the Cape Coral Sports Complex on Saturday, Sunday and Monday,
May 29-31. Twenty-five of the best youth baseball teams will make the trek to
Southwest Florida for this tournament. Games will be played Saturday between
9:00 AM and 7:00 PM, Sunday between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM, and Monday between
9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Questions regarding this event should be directed to
