COMMERCIAL TRUCK TRAFFIC PROHIBITED FROM SLATER/MELLOW/DEL PRADO SHORTCUT

FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 25, 2004) - Due to safety concerns, Lee County's Department of Transportation has prohibited the use of Slater Road/Mellow Road/Del Prado Boulevard Extension in North Fort Myers to through trucks.

This does not apply to trucks with legitimate destinations or business along this route.

It DOES APPLY to commercial/heavy trucks that have been using the route as a shortcut - either by leaving Bayshore Road to travel this route to U.S. 41 or from U.S. 41 to Bayshore Road.

This restriction was imposed at the request of citizens concerned that many of these trucks were being operated in a careless manner, endangering lives and property in the community.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is enforcing this restriction. Violations can result in an $89 ticket.
