Bob Janes

County Commissioner District One

Bob Janes is the "junior" member of a very seasoned and stable Lee County Board of Commissioners - having been elected to the board in November 2000 and serving as Chairman of the Board in 2002. But in terms of experience as an elected official, he can claim "seniority" with more than 25 years as a public servant. He has served eight years on the Sanibel City Council and in the 1960s was Chairman of the Hennepin County (Minneapolis, Minn.) Board of County Commissioners for five years. Bob served as a Minneapolis City Alderman for two years, served two years as Associate Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Relations in the Office of the Vice President of the United States and served four years as Assistant Administrator for Extramural Affairs in the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare in Washington, D.C.

Bob is a resident of Sanibel, a retired businessman, former federal administrator and Commissioned Officer in the United States Army. His district comprises the areas of Sanibel, Captiva, south Cape Coral, Matlacha, Pine Island and Boca Grande but Bob is elected by and serves ALL of the people of Lee County and he does that with distinction.

Bob and his colleagues have a combined 46 years experience on the BOCC. The Lee County Commission is the governing board for the 2,200 employee county government which spends more than $800 million annually on services and capital projects. Sitting as the Board of Port Commissioners, it also oversees Southwest Florida International Airport which is undergoing a $386-million expansion and Page Field which is a general aviation airport.

Bob is the BOCC liaison to the smart growth, legislative, and human services committees. Additionally, he works with a coalition of federal, state, local governments and non-profit organizations to locate funding to acquire and preserve the Babcock Ranch wildlife area for future generations.

Bob's interest in mental health issues resulted in the coordination of the 15 agencies that launched Lee County's Mental Health Court in June 2002. The program is an innovative alternative to traditional justice models that incorporates diversion and treatment for those with mental illnesses who have committed minor crimes.

He has served as Chairman of the Health & Human Services Legislative Policy Committee for Florida Association of Counties. Bob was appointed last year to serve as Chairman of the Medicaid Indigent Subcommittee/Health Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties. Earlier this year he was named to the Medicaid Working Group by the National Association of Counties, Inc. and will be working with HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson and Congress this year on Medicaid reform efforts. Bob has just been appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Health Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties at their annual conference and also sits on the Executive Board of Directors.

Commissioner Janes has recently been reelected to serve his second term on the Lee County Board of County Commissioners without opposition.

Ray Judah

County Commissioner District Three

Commissioner Ray Judah was born in the Cebu Islands, Philippines and he and his wife, Kristen, have a 16 year old son Kallen. Commissioner Judah graduated from the California State University of Humboldt with a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology (1977) and a Master of Science in Natural Resources (1987).

As a former environmental land planner with the Lee County Department of Community Development, he remains a strong advocate for responsible stewardship of our natural resources and is a proponent of providing sufficient infrastructure such as roads, parks, libraries, and utilities to accommodate our rapidly growing population.

Commissioner Judah served as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners in 1994, 1998 and 2003 and has been a long term member on numerous committees, such as the West Coast Inland Navigation District and Lee County Regional Water Supply Authority. The commissioner's commitment to enhance our quality of life is reflected in his effort to establish and support the highly successful Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed Land Trust and Conservation 2020 Program which is aggressively acquiring environmentally sensitive lands to protect our water supplies, open space and natural heritage. Commissioner Judah has been a strong supporter of the Conservation 2020 Program. Commissioner Judah has spearheaded beach restoration on Fort Myers Beach and took the lead to construct a state of the art Waste to Energy Plant that was honored as the "Best Project in the World" by Power Engineering International in 1995. Because of his efforts to safeguard the environment, he has received numerous awards- 1984 & 1996- "Conservationist of the Year" from the Florida Audubon Society, 1992-"Environmental Public Service Award" from Keep Lee County Beautiful, 2001- "Most Outstanding Public Official" from the Community Coordinating Council, 2003-"Champion of the Environment" from Gulfshore Life Magazine and 2003-"Pathfinder Award" from the Urban Land Institute.

A strong proponent of volunteer service to our community, Commissioner Judah stays actively involved in managing a little league baseball team and participating in numerous coastal cleanup projects. Additionally, he promotes the Edison Regional Science Fair as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Fort Myers. The Commissioner extends heartfelt thanks to the community for giving him the opportunity to serve in his job as a public servant for all Lee County citizens.

Tammy Hall

County Commissioner District Four

Newly elected Commissioner Tammy Hall moved to Southwest Florida with her family in 1978 from Eagle River Wisconsin. She has been a Lee County resident for over 26 years and is a resident of Cape Coral. Her parents Louis and Mona Hall along with her youngest brother and his two sons also are residents of Southwest Florida.

Before being elected to the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, Ms. Hall was a member of the Fort Myers City Council. In her four years of public service for the City she established herself as a compelling leader, championing the development and funding for the Downtown revitalization plan. Additionally, she took a leadership role in the development of community plans in other areas of the city.

Much of Ms. Hall's career has been devoted to giving back to her community. As a volunteer she has served and participated on several non-profit and charitable boards throughout Lee County as well as serving on numerous task forces dealing with the growth challenges facing our community.

Ms. Hall began her career in the resort/real estate industry working for a local developer. Having gained a comprehensive understanding of the area's growth opportunities, she left real estate and entered the architectural community as the marketing director for a large architectural and engineering firm.

Due to her passion for community service and her involvement in the original Master Plan of the Downtown Fort Myers area, Ms. Hall was recruited to work for the City of Fort Myers Downtown Redevelopment Agency as the Director of Marketing in 1988 until 1992. She was then hired to be the Assistant Director of the newly developed Department of Tourism and Marketing for the City of Fort Myers.

In 1994, Ms. Hall left government employment and began her own marketing consulting firm of Hall & Company. Her clients have included local businesses and retail establishments, as well as clients in the regional and international markets. In 2000, Ms. Hall was elected to the Fort Myers City Council and served until elected to the Lee County Commission in 2004.

Ms. Hall wants to thank the residents of Lee County for giving her this opportunity to serve them as their County Commissioner. She welcomes the opportunity to work with her fellow Board members, county staff members and residents to ensure the integrity of our neighborhoods and protect our community's high quality of life.

John E. Albion

County Commissioner District Five

Commissioner John Albion is a graduate of Centre College in Kentucky, with a B.A. Degree in Government in 1984. He is a licensed Real Estate Broker with Safe-T-Realty and Director of Operations for Safe-T-Storage for 12 years. Commissioner Albion was first elected to the Lee County Commission in 1992. He successfully won re-election to the District Five seat both in 1996 and again in 2000.

Prior to his election to the Lee County Commission, Mr. Albion served as a Board Member and Past President of the Greater Fort Myers Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. During that time, he additionally served as Chairman of the Beach Quality of Life Committee and the Annual Beach Shrimp Festival 5K run. Commissioner Albion also served as 1987 Chairman of the Fort Myers Beach United Way Campaign. Currently, the Commissioner continues to serve the community as a committee member of the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Uncommon Friends Foundation and the Resort and Hospitality Advisory Board. He is a graduate of Leadership Lee County, Leadership Southwest Florida, Leadership Bonita and the Lee Grows Program. He just recently completed a one year commitment to the Strategic Intermodal Systems Committee, a committee created by the Governor and the Secretary of Transportation to address critical transportation needs throughout the State of Florida.

John presently serves as Chairman of the Lee County Board of County Commissioners (for the third time), the Lee County Port Authority, the Lee County Tourist Development Council, Lee County's Economic Development Horizon Council, and the Lee County Affordable Housing Committee. John also represents the Board as liaison to the Regional Planning Council and serves as a Governing Board Member to the Metropolitan Planning Organization Advisory Council and the Florida Regional Council's Association. John has also been appointed to the Transportation Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties, where many of our long term roadway issues are addressed.

Along with his many accomplishments, Commissioner Albion was instrumental in overseeing the implementation of a $20 million grant secured from the Federal Highway Administration for a variable pricing program aimed to lower the tolls during some non-peak driving times on the Cape Coral and Midpoint Memorial Bridges. Commissioner Albion's goal is to focus on four very important issues. One issue is community science based growth management including community plans. Another issue is working to improve the hurricane shelter deficit with shared community involvement. Commissioner Albion will also continue to aggressively pursue transportation needs for Lee County, working to provide an integrated road network for our region which will enhance not destroy our communities. Finally, Commissioner Albion will continue to work aggressively to keep the millage rate down and support the preservation of environmentally sensitive land. Commissioner Albion and his wife, Lauri, live in South Lee County with their two sons, Jake and David and daughter Hannah.
