Sanibel Causeway Construction Requires Periodic Lane Closures on Bridge "B" Beginning 7:30AM Wednesday, December 8, 2004 through Friday, December 10, 2004

Fort Myers, FL, December 7, 2004 - In preparation for construction of the
permanent retaining wall for Bridge "B" (the middle bridge), the Sanibel
Causeway contractor will install a 150-foot-long temporary steel wall this
week.  The 4'x45' steel wall sections will be lifted by crane and placed
near the existing seawall at the end of Bridge "B".  Installation of the
temporary steel wall will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m. Wednesday,
December 8, 2004.  To provide protection for the traveling public, Bridge
"B" will be reduced to one travel lane.  Traffic control personnel will be
alternating east and westbound traffic flow during this period.  About once
every hour, all traffic will be stopped for approximately 5 minutes while
the wall sections are lifted and placed near Bridge "B".

Both lanes of traffic will reopen from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. each day, then
the wall installation will resume and traffic flow will be restricted to one
lane.  It is anticipated that the wall installation will be complete Friday
afternoon, December 10, 2004.  If traffic delays become excessive, the
contractor will reevaluate the installation schedule and make adjustments if
necessary.

The contractor has scheduled lane closures to minimize traffic interruptions
during peak season and every effort will be made to complete the work as
soon as possible.  Drivers are asked to use caution and obey all signs
during this brief inconvenience.
