Project Description
The project consists of shoreline monitoring the approximate 6000' that was restored in 2004. The project is between DNR reference monuments R-214 and R-220 and included a 2 foot dune across the project length. The average shoreline extension during the restoration was 182 feet. The 1st year monitoring results (2005) indicate only 45,000 of the placed 588,000 cubic yards were lost and a shoreline recession of 45 feet. 2nd year monitoring showed an additional loss of 34,000 cyds and shoreline recession of 9 feet. (The large 1st year recession rate can be attributed to the shoreline equilibrating to a more natrual slope than construction techniques can provide.)
The project area is classified as "critically eroding" and the next nourishment is schedule for 2013.
