Jan. 2004 Sept. 2006
Project Description
The project is a continuation of the shoreline monitoring from the last nourishment completed in June 2004. The nourishment placed approximately 115,000 cyds of beach fill on the northern most 4,100 feet of Little Hickory Island (Bonita Beach). The entire project area is designated as critically eroded shoreline by the State of Florida.
Monitoring is required in years bi-annually until the next nourishment, which is expected in 2012. During the 1st year post construction (2005), an estimated 65,000 cyds moved out of the project limits. The large percentage of fill lost (56%) may be attributed to impacts from the 2004 & 2005 hurricane seasons. The 2nd year monitoring results indicate approximately 3,000 cyds migrated back into the project area for a net change of 53,000 cyds from pre-construction to 2 years post construction.
