Artificial Reefs
Lee County has had an active artificial reef program since the early 1990's. County staff actively pursue grants from state, federal, and private sources in an effort to create new artificial reefs. The map below shows the 20 artificial reef sites in Lee County offshore and inshore waters.
What's new: March 2008. The deployment of material from the Sanibel Causeway is complete. All in all, 29 barge loads of material were deployed at the Causeway site. This material totaled 11,279 tons. Deployment coordinates have been posted. Use the link above for the new coordiantes.
