Special Flood Hazard Areas – Map Tool Functions

There are several tools located on the left side of the web page.  The tools perform the following functions: 

Toggle between Legend and Layerlist - Toggle between a list of available mapping layers and a map legend

Toggle Overview Map - Toggle the county-wide overview map off and on

Zoom In - Zoom in to a clicked location or a box created by dragging the mouse while holding down the left mouse button

Zoom Out - Zoom out from the clicked location

Zoom to Full Extent - Zoom out to the whole county

Pan - Pan by dragging the cursor across the map while holding down the left mouse button

Pan to North - Pan up

Pan to South - Pan down

Pan to Left - Pan to the left

Pan to Right - Pan to the right

Click Tool, Click on Map for FLOOD Maps - Hyperlink Tool - Display the proposed FIRM map for the location clicked

Find Address - To search by parcel or condo address:

  1. Click the top icon on the left hand side (toggle between legend and layerlist).
  2. The layerlist will appear on the right side, click the ACTIVE button next to parcels or condos (depending on which you will be searching for).
  3. Click the Find tool (binoculars) on the left side and type in the address in the box along the bottom.
  4. If the address is not found, type in just the street name and look through the list.
  5. To zoom to the property in question, click on the record number on the far left of the property listed.

Helpful hints for searching for addresses:

Type in just the street name:

For example, to locate 12800 University Drive, type in University and select from the list of valid addresses.  12800 University Drive is actually stored as 12800-861 University Dr.

Alternate Road Names:

US 41 is stored as 5 different road names:

N Tamiami Trl (from Charlotte County Line to Business 41)

N Cleveland Ave (from Business 41 to north bank of the Caloosahatchee River)

Cleveland Ave ( from south bank of the Caloosahatchee River to Colonial Blvd)

S Cleveland Ave ( from Colonial Blvd to Daniels Pkwy)

S Tamiami Trl (from Daniels Pkwy to Collier County Line)

Business 41 = N Tamiami Trl

Old US 41 (Bonita Springs) = Old 41 Rd

Six Mile Cypress Pkwy = Ben C Pratt Six Mile Cyp

MLK Blvd = Dr Martin Luther King Jr

SR 80 = Palm Beach Blvd

Clear Selection - Clear any highlighted features such as road segments
Print - Print a map of the currently displayed area
Active Tool - The active tool will be highlighted with a red box

Some tools such as ZoomIn, Pan and PanRight are activated by clicking them.  Interaction with the map is then required to perform the tools’ function.

Others such as Togglelegend and FullExtent perform their function as soon as they are clicked.
