10-9-12 Fort Myers Elks Lodge 1288 Day
Twenty six years after the City of Fort Myers was founded, the Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was formed in Lee County; and Whereas: The founders of the local lodge elected officers and held their first meeting on October 12, 1912; and Whereas: For the last century the Elks have been actively involved in numerous charitable and community service programs in Lee County, following their principles which instill Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; and Whereas: Over this 100 years the members of the Fort Myers Lodge have performed acts of benevolence and charity both locally and throughout the State of Florida as well as contributed to the Elks national programs; and Whereas: The primary programs sponsored by the Fort Myers Elks Lodge aid our local veterans, local children’s programs and programs that help the disadvantaged in Lee County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of County Commissioners of Lee County, Florida wishes to recognize the Fort Myers Elks Lodge for their many achievements for the betterment of mankind and our local community and proclaims October 12, 2012 as: FORT MYERS ELKS LODGE #1288 DAY in Lee County and offers a very happy 100th anniversary to all members, past, present and future, and wishes the Fort Myers Elks Lodge continued success in the years ahead.
