    Applicant Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I get a list of available positions?
A: Go to our website, www.leegov.com, and click on the "Job List" option from the "Bulletins" listing.  Scroll down to the very bottom of the page to see the titles of the available positions along with the beginning of the job description.  If you see a position you are interested in, click on the Title of the position to bring up the complete job description.  The job description will include the responsibilities of the position as well as the requirements for the position.  Keep in mind, the requirements for the position must be met at the time you apply in order to be considered for the position.

Q: How do I apply for a position once I find one I am interested in?
A:  A fully completed application is REQUIRED for all positions you are interested in applying for.  The preferred way to apply for a position is on-line.  You must have an e-mail address for this process.  Once you have read the complete job description for the position you are interested in, click on the word "apply" just above the job description on the right hand side.  If you have not already done so, you will need to create an account with a Username and Password.  You will then be prompted to start the application process.  There is an "On-line Application Guide" available on the "Log-In" screen if you need assistance.  You may also call us at 239-533-2245, or stop by our office located on the first floor of the County Administration Office at 2115 Second St., Ft. Myers, FL 33901, and we will be happy to assist you.

Q: Do I have to submit a separate application for each position I am interested in?
A: Yes, you must submit a separate application for each position you are interested in.  Please keep in mind, this process is easier when using the on-line application option.  Our on-line application system requires you to complete the application only once and then it will automatically make a copy of your application to submit to the position you are applying to.

Q: Where do I get a paper application if I do not have an e-mail address?
A: From the "Welcome to Lee County's Job Vacancy Listing" page, click on the "here" in the sentence "If you do not have an e-mail address, click here to access our County Job Application in PDF format."  PRIOR TO SUBMITTING A PAPER APPLICATION:

Positions may have position specific SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS that you are required to answer. Please print the entire job posting by clicking on the title of the position located in the blue striped section below and then click on the words "Print Job Information" located on the right hand side of the screen just above the job description. Read all of the information in the job description and then respond to the SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS. Attach your responses to your application before submitting it to Human Resources.

Q: Where do I send my completed application?
A: You may personally deliver your application to Human Resources located on the first floor of the County Administration Building at 2115 Second St., Ft. Myers, FL 33901.  You may mail your application to Human Resources at PO Box 398, Ft. Myers, FL 33902.  You may also fax your application to 239-485-2077.  Your application must be received in Human Resources BEFORE the posting closes.  If Human Resources does not receive your application BEFORE the posting closes, we will NOT be able to consider you for the position and your application will NOT be processed.

Q: I do not want to apply for any of the currently posted positions.  Can I submit an application so you have it on file for future positions I am interested in?
A: We will only accept applications for positions that are currently posted.

Q: Where do I send a copy of my DD214 or other documentation for Veteran's Preference?
A: You may scan and attach a copy of your Veterans documentation to your on-line application in the same way you attach a file to an e-mail.  You may e-mail a scanned copy to hr_staffing@leegov.com.  You may personally deliver your Veterans documentation to Human Resources located on the first floor of the County Administration Building at 2115 Second St., Ft. Myers, FL 33901.  You may mail your Veterans documentation to Human Resources at PO Box 398, Ft. Myers, FL 33902.  You may also fax your application to 239-485-2077.  Your documentation must be submitted at the time you apply.

Q: How long does it take for the hiring process?
A: There is no set timeframe for a decision to be made.  The timeframe varies based on many factors such as the number of applications received, the schedule of the hiring manager(s), the date the position becomes vacant, etc.

Q: Who do I call to schedule an interview?
A: Each hiring department is responsible for making their own hiring decisions.  The hiring department will review all of the applications they receive and then contact all applicants they wish to interview.

Q: Will I hear from someone even if I am not selected?
A: Because of the large number of applications we receive for each of our posted positions, it is not always possible to contact every applicant for each position.  We are working on a system that will allow us to contact all applicants via e-mail in the future.

Q: I meet all of the requirements for the positions I have applied for and I have a lot of experience, why haven't I been interviewed?
A: Making a hiring decision is not easy and, with the large number of applications received for our posted positions, making the decision is even more difficult.  We urge you to apply for those positions you are interested in and meet the requirements for.

Q: The position I am interested in requires me to take a typing test.  Where do I go for the typing test?
A: You must come to Human Resources located on the first floor of the County Administration Building at 2115 Second St., Ft. Myers, FL 33901.  Please keep in mind; you must meet the typing requirement BEFORE the posting closes in order to be considered for the position.

Q: I took the typing test already, when do I have to take it again?
A: Typing scores are valid for a period of one (1) year from the date you take the typing test.  After one year, you must take the typing test again.  Keep in mind; you may take the typing test up to two (2) times in a 7 day period if you would like to work towards improving your score.  You may take the typing test at any time even if there is no position posted that requires a typing test.

Q: I took the typing test for another business; can I use the same score for your positions?
A: Typing tests must be taken at Human Resources located on the first floor of the County Administration Building at 2115 Second St., Ft. Myers, FL 33901.  We are unable to accept typing tests taken at any other location.
