The Groundwater Unit has several responsibilities in protecting the County's groundwater resources.
Major tasks of this Unit are enforcing the County well code, well field protection ordinance, issuance of well construction permits, issuance of Lee County Water Well Contractor Licenses, Education and Enforcement of the Lee County Water Conservation Ordinance 05-10, Education and Enforcement of the Lee County Fertilizer Ordinance 08-08 and inspection of well construction activities for compliance with the code requirements.
The Unit Provides advice and also responds to the public well contractors, consultants, County staff, and other agencies on issues related to hydrogeology of the region. The Unit acts as liaison between the County and the Well Construction Advisory Board.

The next Well Construction Advisory Board (WCAB) meeting is scheduled for September 16th, 2009 at 9:00 A.M in the 1st floor conference room in the Public Works building located at 1500 Monroe Street, Fort Myers, Florida 33901. The public is invited to attend and participage.
