DR/GR Workshops

Presented by Dover, Kohl & Partners

Background

On September 11, 2007, Lee County Commissioners approved a 14-point Action Plan to study the southeast Density Reduction/Groundwater Resource land, approximately 83,000 acres generally south of SR 82 and east of I-75.  With a mix of rural neighborhoods, limerock mines, farms and conservation areas, this land contains valuable ecological and hydrological features, including panther habitat, water supply wells and wetlands.

As part of the Action Plan, Lee County hired Dover, Kohl & Partners of Coral Gables to work with land owners in the DR/GR and all Lee County citizens with an interest in the area to craft future land use scenarios.

From April 16 to 24, 2008, a DR/GR project team from the globally-recognized planning firm held workshops at Harborside Event Center, 1375 Monroe St., Fort Myers.  The public was encouraged to participate in this collaborative effort.
