WE STRESS GETTING A FLU SHOT, BUT

  • Each year in the United States, as many as 50,000-70,000 American adults die needlessly from vaccine-preventable diseases or their complications.
  • Pneumonia and influenza together are the fifth leading cause of death in the nation for older adults.
  • Annually, pneumococcal disease accounts for an estimated 500,000 cases of pneumonia, 50,000 cases of bacteremia, and 3,000 cases of meningitis. All preventable.
  • Pneumococcal pneumonia, the most common type of pneumonia, accounts for 25% to 35% of all adult pneumonia leading to hospitalization.
  • Hepatitis, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella and pneumonia, all potential adult diseases, are all preventable with a simple vaccine.
