What's the best gift you can give your new baby?
A Healthy Start in life!
What's the best way to do this?
Start prenatal care early, and say "YES" on the
HEALTHY START screening form.
What is the HEALTHY START Screening Form?
It's a short form you complete at your Doctor's office that asks
questions about you and your health. Your answers are confidential
and will be reviewed by the Nurse to determine if you're eligible and
could use extra help during your pregnancy.
What types of services are available?
A Healthy Start Care Coordinator will help you obtain a variety of
services, if needed, so you will have a healthy baby. Examples are:
Childbirth Education Classes, Breastfeeding Support, Stop Smoking,
Nutritional Counseling, Parenting Classes, Counseling and other services.
Who Qualifies?
This Program is voluntary, and available to all Florida residents.
Eligibility is based on the screening score or referral -- not financial factors.
How does the Program make a difference?
Good health habits, good nutrition, keeping your doctor or midwife
appointments, and a positive state of mind for you, the new mom to be, are
important to a healthy baby.
After birth, does the program include the baby?
The infant program is available to your baby and can continue up to three
years of age.
Be sure to have your baby screened for HEALTHY START SERVICES
at the hospital. The Healthy Start Infant Program
can help you to be the best parent you can be!
Remember to ask for your HEALTHY START
SCREENING from your doctor or midwife and when your baby is born.
