Why is the library offering Amnesty?
The library is providing a final opportunity
to close the book on fines before new
policies take effect on May 1.
Will this become an annual event?
No. This a one-time opportunity to bring in
any overdue items without paying late fees.
Starting May 1, 2007, the Lee County Library
System will be working with an agency that
specializes in the recovery of overdue
materials.
How many people currently have overdue
items?
More than 14,000 people in Lee County
currently have at least one overdue item.
How can I find out if I have any overdue
items?
You can call the library line at

anytime, or visit the library online at
www.lee-county.com/library
and click “My
account”.
Is there a limit on how many items I can
return without fees?
Not at all. Bring in any late library item
you find. It doesn’t matter how many you
have or how long they’ve been out. We’ll be
glad to take them back and waive the fees.
Can I
drop off my late items at any Lee County
Library System’s bookdrop?
Yes. You can return your overdue items at
any Lee County Library System’s bookdrop;
however, we encourage patrons to return
items to staff members to ensure that we
clear your fines and give you a receipt.
Is there amnesty for lost or damaged items?
Lost items must be returned in good
condition and should be returned to a
library staff member so they can waive the
lost charges and issue you a receipt.
Damaged items will not be considered for
amnesty. Contact a library staff member to
work out payment arrangements for damaged
items.
Is there amnesty for
Interlibrary
Loan fines?
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) fines will not be
waived.
Is there amnesty for items returned before
April 16?
No. Amnesty is only for any overdue items
returned April 16 – 30, 2007. Fines and Fees
cannot be removed for items returned before
or after the amnesty period.
Can I drop off my late items at any
non-library locations?
To ensure
that staff waives your late fees, please
return items to the circulation desk inside
any Lee County Library System location.
Staff cannot waive fees on items left
at school libraries or any other locations. |
