Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the library offering Amnesty?
The library is providing a final opportunity to close the book on fines before new policies take effect on May 1.

Will this become an annual event?
No. This a one-time opportunity to bring in any overdue items without paying late fees. Starting May 1, 2007, the Lee County Library System will be working with an agency that specializes in the recovery of overdue materials.

How many people currently have overdue items?
More than 14,000 people in Lee County currently have at least one overdue item.

How can I find out if I have any overdue items?
You can call the library line at (239) 338-3518 anytime, or visit the library online at www.lee-county.com/library and click “My account”.

Is there a limit on how many items I can return without fees?
Not at all. Bring in any late library item you find. It doesn’t matter how many you have or how long they’ve been out. We’ll be glad to take them back and waive the fees.

Can I drop off my late items at any Lee County Library System’s bookdrop?
Yes. You can return your overdue items at any Lee County Library System’s bookdrop; however, we encourage patrons to return items to staff members to ensure that we clear your fines and give you a receipt.

Is there amnesty for lost or damaged items?
Lost items must be returned in good condition and should be returned to a library staff member so they can waive the lost charges and issue you a receipt. Damaged items will not be considered for amnesty. Contact a library staff member to work out payment arrangements for damaged items.

Is there amnesty for Interlibrary Loan fines?
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) fines will not be waived.

Is there amnesty for items returned before April 16?
No. Amnesty is only for any overdue items returned April 16 – 30, 2007. Fines and Fees cannot be removed for items returned before or after the amnesty period.

Can I drop off my late items at any non-library locations?
