About
Fit For Life
- The Lee
County Library System has joined over a dozen
other U.S. public libraries in an effort to help
teens and families tackle obesity in America.
The library system has scheduled a series of
health fairs, next month, to promote this year’s
theme of the annual Teens Read & Win summer
reading program ─ “Fit for Life.” The campaign,
a grant-funded initiative of the MetLife
Foundation and Libraries for the Future, is
designed to help combat the growing epidemic of
obesity and lack of physical activity among
young people. The Cape Coral Youth Intervention
Program, Lee County Health Department, Lee
Memorial Health System and Lee County Parks &
Recreation have teamed up with the library
system to stress the importance of fitness and
proper nutrition to teens and their families at
upcoming “Fit for Life” health fairs. Admission
is free to the public.
“In light of the national
concerns about obesity and related health risks,
it is important for teens and their families to
have the information they need to make decisions
about developing healthy habits early in life,”
said Marilyn Graham, manager of library public
services.
Additional Fit for Life events will be held
throughout the summer. |
