We are now
in the planning stages for Northwest Regional Library!
Northwest Regional Library
The Cape Coral and North Fort Myers areas are
growing and an additional library will be built adjacent to
Mariner Middle School in North Cape Coral. The Northwest
Regional Library is needed, along with the Cape Coral - Lee
County Public Library, North Fort Myers Public Library and Pine
Island Public Library, to continue to meet our growing
community's library needs.
Q.
Where will the Northwest Regional Library be
located?
A. The Northwest Regional Library will be
adjacent to the Mariner Middle School in North Cape Coral. It
will serve patrons in the North Cape Coral, North Fort Myers
and Pine Island areas.

Q. How large will the Northwest
Regional Library be?
A. The Northwest Regional Library will be
approximately 40,000 square feet, making it one of the largest
library buildings in the Lee County Library System.

Q. Why will the
Northwest Regional Library be built?
A. The Northwest Regional Library
is being constructed in order to provide service to meet the
needs of a growing population in northern Cape Coral and North Fort Myers.
Northwest Regional Library will serve this
area, along with the
Cape Coral - Lee County Public Library, North Fort Myers Public
Library and Pine Island Public Library. The new Northwest
Library is being built in addition to these libraries and no
libraries will be replaced by the new building.

Q. How much will the
Northwest Regional Library
cost?
A. The Northwest Regional Library building
will cost approximately 14.7 million dollars.

Q. What will the Northwest Regional Library look like?
A. Although the design is still underway, the Library will offer
a modern, high tech look with lots of windows and clerestory
glass providing ample natural lighting. In addition to the
interior spaces serving all age populations, the Northwest
Regional Library will offer four reading courtyards to permit
patrons to enjoy our southwest Florida weather. The library
will present an appearance of building materials and native
landscaping familiar to Cape Coral residents.”

Q. What will parking be like?
A.
Preliminary plans call for the Library to provide a total of 211
parking spaces. Of this total, 160 will serve as public parking
spaces, and 12 of these spaces are assigned for disabled patrons
with permits. The Library will also provide 51 parking spaces
reserved for staff use. The number of parking spaces for
patrons, disabled patrons, and staff all exceed the requirements
of the code to assure our parking needs will be satisfied.

Q.
Who
will design and construct the Northwest Regional Library?
A.
Architects for the project are BSSW Architects based in Ft.
Myers. The Construction Manager will be Casey Construction,
also based in Ft. Myers.

Q. When will the library be
built?
A. Lee County is currently underway with preliminary design and securing
the necessary land development approvals. The County
tentatively expects to commence construction in 2008.
