Boca Grande Library and Reference Room Expansion

As part of the Boca Grande Community Center renovation, the Library will gain 400 square feet and a new floor plan with more computers and a circulating collection of over 7,000 library items. The renovation is expected to be completed in May 2008.
Library users have access to current resources and service during the renovation.

Technology
Five computers will be added to the existing computers for a total of twelve computers.  One of these twelve computers will be an Express Station with a 10-minute time limit.

Reference Room visitors with their laptops will be able to plug-in to the library's network for Internet  access and their computer's files.  Wireless users may access the Internet anywhere on the Community Center grounds.

The additional computers, the 10-minute Express Station, the laptop plug-in access and wireless access will help alleviate the waiting line during season.
Collection

A  circulating collection of approximately 7,000 items will be added.
Forty percent of the collection will be devoted to adult fiction and non-fiction (2800 items).  Twenty-five percent will be juvenile and young adult materials (1780 items).
Eight percent (560 items) will be reference materials.
Two percent will be periodicals and newspapers (80 items).
Twenty-five percent will be DVDs, books on CD; music CDs; software and "playaway" digitized audio books.(1780 items).

In addition to the items located in the Room, library card holders have access to more than 1.3 million items located in the other 11 libraries in the Lee County Library System through our online catalog at www.www3.leegov.com/library

Many tems not in the Lee County Library System collection can be reserved from other Florida libraries using IBorrow.  A worldwide collection is available through FirstSearch. Both resources are located on the Library System's website www.www3.leegov.com/library

Library Cards
Circulating items will be available for checkout with a Lee County Library System card.  Library cards are free to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Lee County.

Thanks to an interlocal agreement with Charlotte County, Boca Grande residents have access to libraries in both counties.  Those who live or work in the Charlotte county portion of the island, may use the Lee County Library System card only at the Boca Grande Library. Those who live, work or attend school in the Lee County portion of the island, may use their library cards at any of the 12 Lee County libraries.

Lee County library card holders can also get a Charlotte County Library System card to use only at the Englewood Charlotte Public Library located at 3450 N. Access Road on 776.  Just visit the Englewood Charlotte Public Library and show them your Lee County Library System card.
About the Expansion Project

In a true cooperative effort, the renovation expenses are being shared by two Lee County departments.  Parks & Recreation is paying for the construction costs, electrical wiring, new flooring and renovation of the beloved historic windows.

The Library System is paying for the room's new contents: library materials, computers, wireless access, book shelves, self check machine, security system and furniture.
