How Your Organization Can Get Involved
Plan a book discussion
or develop another activity that ties in to the themes
of “Florida Roadkill” and schedule it for sometime
between October 10 and October 30, 2007. A list of
suggested activities is enclosed to help you get the
ball rolling.
Activities Your
Organization Might Consider:
-
Hold a
book discussion
-
Lunchtime
reading and discussion for employees
-
Workplace
or community Pot Luck meal renaming your traditional
foods with “road kill” titles like buzzard bites,
road hash or armadillo wraps
-
Your group
has a Florida Memories day where everyone brings a
memento from a Florida attraction and tells the
group a story about it (main character Serge Storms
is a fanatic about kitschy Florida souvenirs!)
-
Trips to
nearest library for a book discussion
-
Readers’
Theater: Each participant “plays a role” and reads a
particular character’s lines from the book (this is
fun, but can take some rehearsal time to be
comfortable in front of an audience if you will have
one)
-
Pick a
theme from the book and create your own activity!
Other
Participation:
-
Provide
space for promotional bookmarks provided by the
Library System
-
Include information in
your newsletter or on your website encouraging
people to read the book and attend related programs
and activities
-
Allow us to feature your
Web site in our Lee County Reads “Florida Roadkill”
virtual scavenger hunt (call Karen at 239-461-2914
for details)
-
Help with
word-of-mouth promotion of the project – just ask
your friends and family to read!
