Protect Yourself
from Spam, Viruses, & Spyware
You should
be concerned about the security of your personal information and your computer
and this seminar is for you. We will discuss viruses, spam, passwords,
firewalls, and ways to protect your computer and your personal information.
This
is the opportunity for you to learn what to worry about and what not to worry
about. The seminar will be as non-technical as possible and include lots of
software and internet references – including the free ones!
Some
examples of the ideas and tools we will present include:

Free virus testing.

Test the security of your PC.

Catch the spyware running on your PC.

How to recognize pfishing, spam, and the latest scams.

Homework and checklists to increase your security.
The two
hour seminar will be followed by a 30 minute question and answer session.

Your
Camera and Digital Photography - Now in 2 parts
Have a new or not
so new digital camera? We can make digital cameras easier. Here’s an opportunity
to learn all about it from the ground up. We will explain the basics of digital
cameras and help you get yours working. We will talk about features and options
and show you how to use them on your camera. We’ll show you how to improve your
photo skills with ideas for better composition, using point of view, and
artistic considerations. We’ll explain portraits, landscapes, and travel photos
and how to come home with better images. Finally, we will discuss how to share
those images with others.
Part 1 will cover the basics of camera operations, taking pictures, and emailing
pictures. Part 2 will cover control of your camera, composition,
organizing photos (directory structure), PC software, and a photo assignment.
Have fun with hands-on experience and discover how to take better photos. Bring
your camera (in working order), instruction manual, and be ready to take a few
pictures. We will coach you in class and ask you to participate in a photo
assignment. These two morning workshops are filled with helpful information.

Housekeeping for Your PC
Most
of us use our PCs much as we would a kitchen appliance. We expect them to work
and respond whenever we turn them on. But, PCs will work a lot better (and so
will we) if we do a little housekeeping on the machine from time-to-time. This
seminar will present some fundamentals that all PC users (beginners thru
advanced) should follow.
This
morning-long seminar will walk you through many of the essential housekeeping
steps you can and should do on your PC. These include:

Using the Start Menu

Windows Explorer & directory structures

Removing programs and files
-
Cleaning that disk drive
-
What are: defrag, recycle, scan, and cookies?

When is that new PC needed?
The
handouts will allow you to follow along with the large screen presentation.

Digital
Photography – Editing Your Photos (Revised for ’06)
This
digital photography class will get you started with handling photographs on your
computer. You will learn how to alter sizes, correct color, perform basic
editing, and create new images from old images. We will use a basic photo
editor (which you can obtain - free) to change and improve photographs. You will
gain experience correcting problem photos, cropping, re-sizing, adjusting color,
brightness and contrast.
This
class requires that you have significant PC experience and be familiar with the
basics of using a mouse, menus, commands, files, control buttons. Experience
with a digital camera is not required.

Windows for Experienced
Users (Two Parts)
Microsoft Word
for Windows has many features that are useful within Word as well as features
useful in Windows and other programs. We will present the functions of the menus
and toolbars; text-formatting (using fonts and special effects); text-movement
(cut, copy, and paste); and inserting pictures in documents.
You
will learn how to apply many of these techniques to other Windows programs. We
will show you how the drag-and-drop technique is a real time saver. You will
also learn how to use numbering and bullet points within a document. Tables and
columns are other advanced topics to be covered in this session. To wrap-up the
class, the hands-on project will be the creation of a simple newsletter.
This
class requires that you have significant PC experience and be familiar with the
basics of using a mouse, menus, commands, files, control buttons.

E-mail
Attachments & Windows Tips (New for ’06)
Now
that you’re using e-mail, it’s time to look at the shortcuts you can use. This
class will focus on some critical tips and techniques related to attachments. We
will cover the actions to create, use, and save email attachments. In addition,
you will learn how to cut, copy and paste, use multiple windows, and understand
file and directory options.
Hands-on practice will build your skills and your confidence. At the end of the
session, you should have mastered the ability to create and save attachments and
learned some Windows shortcuts.
You
must have basic PC skills (e.g. using a mouse, menus, commands, and files),
Windows, and email experience before attending this class.

wrap-up the class, the hands-on project will be the creation of a home expense
report.
This
is an advanced class that requires you to have significant PC experience and be

Photography and Your Digital Camera

I: “Operating Your Camera”

Have a new or not-so-new digital camera?
Learn the basics of digital camera in this two-part, hands-on instruction
seminar. Bring a working camera and instruction manual and learn some fun,
hands-on techniques. Instruction will begin with a review of the basic options
and camera features and then move on to ideas for better composition, using
