East County Regional Library Receives Videos on Protecting Homes from Wildfires

FORT MYERS, Fla., May 12, 2006 – The Florida Division of Forestry has donated several videos aimed at protecting homes from wildfires to the East County Regional Library.

Four copies of the video, “Wildfire: preventing home ignitions” are now available for check out. (Click the link to see the item listed in our catalog.)

The video details how a wildfire can ignite homes. The ignition zone is the home itself and its immediate surroundings. It includes ways to increase this zone's resistance to fire.

The Florida Division of Forestry uses the Firewise Communities program to educate homeowners and community professionals about creating defensible space around their homes, helping to protect them from the dangers of wildfire. More information on the Firewise Communities program is available online at http://www.fl-dof.com/wildfire/fire_mitigation_index.html
