The Division of Natural Resources Mission Statement

Provide management and protection of the County's natural resources through well permitting, water conservation, water quality monitoring, flood protection, beach preservation, water-way/marine resources, hazardous waste management and pollutant storage tank programs.

The mission of the Well Permitting program is to protect ground water resources through regulating well construction
Well Permitting
This Program is responsible for collecting data from a network of monitoring equipment in Lee County's major watersheds. The network consists of recording rain gauges equipped to allow real time access; stage recorders that record water levels in surface waterways, and an extensive system of shallow aquifer wells.
Hydrological Monitoring

National Pollutant Discharge System is Federally mandated as part of the 1986 Clean Water Act. Lee County is required to encourage storm water quality control measures through education and enforcement of storm water regulations and site inspections to improve the quality of storm water in Lee County.
NPDES
Established in 1973, the Lee County Environmental Lab provides analytical support for Lee County Government and its citizens by providing environmental and compliance monitorting of the waters in Lee County.
Environmental Laboratory

This program is responsible for preparing stormwater master planning on a county-wide basis. This includes mapping and cataloging of drainage facilities, preparation of simulation models for selected rainfall events, monitoring water quality at selected locations, and monitoring rainfall and flood stage recordings.
Surface Water
This program is responsible for overseeing the installation and maintenance of numerous Aids to Navigation, the removal of Derelict Vessels, the construction and monitoring of Lee County's artificial reefs, the manatee protection plan, and a variety of coastal management projects.
Marine Program

The P2/SQG program is an educational assistance program designed to aid Lee County businesses in determining how to handle their hazardous waste properly. Information is distributed to the public through on-site visits and a quarterly newsletter.
Pollution Prevention/Small Quantity Generator
The Lee County storage tanks program is a State contracted program responsible for annual compliance inspections, installations and closures of petroleum storage tanks operating in Lee County.
