Yellow Fever Creek - East Branch

The Yellow Fever Creek - East Branch (YFCEB) watershed is located in the northwestern area of Lee County. The area is approximately six square miles of the eight square miles within the Yellow Fever Creek watershed. The north end of the watershed is Western Acres' south boundary. The abandoned railroad grade forms the northeastern boundary. The west boundary follows the east boundary of Yellow Fever Creek watershed, City of Cape Coral corporate limits and U.S. 41. The YFCEB watershed is located between the Yellow Fever Creek, Gator Slough and the Powell Creek watersheds.

The watershed boundary has not changed significantly since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering. That 1979 report perpetuated a 1961 watershed study by Smally, Wellford and Nalvin. Recent work by the engineer's for the Merchant's Crossing development confirmed much of the watershed boundary east of the conveyance with slight adjustments on the west.

The ditch along the east side of U.S. 41 interconnects this watershed with the Powell Creek watershed. Runoff from both watersheds can flow west through the YFCEB watershed or south through the Powell Creek watershed. This effects the portion of the YFCEB watershed east of U.S. 41 and just north of Laurel Drive. Capacity in both downstream channels determines the direction of flow. The watershed boundary as shown provides a good location based upon observations over the past years.

The YFCEB watershed boundary map is located on page 16E-W2. It delineates the overall land boundary and identifies adjacent watersheds. The watershed map on 16E-WM has data for structures along the channel. The stationing shown on 16E-WM relates to the flood profile as well as the structures. The structural facilities are shown in the relative area of their actual location. Limitations of scale do not permit structures to be shown at their exact locations on the ground. This map is intended for general information only. Lengths and widths of structures should not be determined by scaling the symbols shown.
