 Daughtrey Creek

The Daughtrey Creek Watershed is located in the north central area of Lee County. The Daughtrey Creek and Daughtrey Creek East Branch watersheds have a total combined area of approximately 37 square miles, 34 of which are within the Daughtrey Creek Watershed. Of that 34 square mile area, four square miles are located within Lee County, with the remainder being in Charlotte County. This report will focus on the four square miles in the Daughtrey Creek Watershed within Lee County. The watershed originates in Charlotte County in the Webb Wildlife Management area. The Daughtrey Creek Watershed is less than one mile wide at S.R. 78 and approximately two miles wide at the Lee/Charlotte County line. The Daughtrey Creek Watershed is generally located between the Powell Creek watershed and the Daughtrey Creek East Watershed.

The watershed boundary has not changed significantly since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering. Although not significant, there have been refinements in the watershed boundary from the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan." These boundary revisions reduce the watershed area from the Interim Plan by about 730 acres with the majority of that acreage now in the Daughtrey Creek East Watershed and the remaining acreage in the Cohn Branch Watershed.

Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are no significant structural flow crossings along the watershed boundary. The Daughtrey Creek main trunk remains a natural channel which has seen little modification.

A general description of the Daughtrey Creek Watershed boundary (within Lee County) is as follows. From the northwest corner of Section 6, Township 43, Range 24 run east along the Lee/Charlotte County line approximately 9,500 feet; then south for approximately 1300 feet; then west and southwest by contour to a point on Nalle Grade Road approximately 2,300 feet west of the southeast corner of Section 6; then continue west along Nalle Grade to Slater Road; then south along Slater Road to the Seminole Gulf Railroad Grade; then southeast along the Railroad Grade for approximately 2000 feet; then south, southeast and south by contour to S.R. 78; then south and east approximately 800 feet; then east and northeast by contour to a point approximately 3,000 feet east of S.R. 78; then south and east by contour to a point approximately 500 feet east of the bridge at Yacht Club Colony across the Daughtrey Creek conveyance; then east and southeast by contour to the river; then west along the riverbank to the southeast corner of the Cohn Branch watershed (approximately 7,000 feet east of S.R. 78); then north along Westwood Road to Winston Road; then west along Winston Road; then continue west and north by contour to SR 78; then southwest along S.R. 78 to a driveway; then north along the driveway alignment for 1600 feet; then west to Slater Road; then north along Slater Road approximately 300 feet; then southwest by contour perpendicular to Slater Road and northwest parallel to Slater Road; then west to the west section line of Section 19, Township 43, Range 24; then north along the section lines to the Lee/Charlotte County line.

The above description is provided as general information only and does not constitute a legal description. See the watershed boundary map on page 20-WM for details of the boundary.
