 Chapel Branch Watershed

The Chapel Branch Watershed is located in the north central area of Lee County. It is slightly less than 2.5 square miles in size, all of which is located within Lee County. The Chapel Branch main trunk, at its confluence with the Caloosahatchee, is located approximately one mile west of I-75. The watershed averages a half mile wide and is approximately four miles long. It is generally located between the Daughtrey Creek East Branch Watershed and the Bayshore Creek Watershed.

The watershed boundary has been revised since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering and further revised from the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan." In addition to slight boundary modifications along common watershed lines, an area of approximately 350 acres in the southeast portion of the watershed, generally downstream of SR 78, has been removed and is now considered to be coastal drainage. Overall, the watershed has decreased in size a little over 60 acres from the Interim Plan boundary.

Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including SFWMD permit information and on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are no significant structural flow crossings along the watershed boundary. The Chapel Branch main trunk remains essentially a natural channel which has seen little modification.

A general description of the Chapel Branch Watershed boundary is as follows. The northwest corner of the watershed is located approximately 1,700 feet west of the northeast corner of Section 8, Township 43 South, Range 25 East, which is also along Nalle Grade Road. Run east along Nalle Grade Road for 3,000 feet; then south, west and south by contour to the southeast corner of Section 8, which is also on Rich Road; then west along Rich Road for 800 feet; then south to Leetana Road; then west along Leetana Road for 700 feet; then south to I-75; then southeast along I-75 to an intersection with the east line of Section 20, Township 43 South, Range 25 East; then south to the southeast corner of Section 20; then south and east by contour to the Caloosahatchee; then west along the north bank of the Caloosahatchee for approximately 1,700 feet; then northwest by contour to a point on SR 78 approximately 800 feet northeast of Samville Road; then continue northwest, northeast and north by contour through Section 20 to the Seminole Gulf Railroad grade at a point approximately 700 feet west of the main trunk; then northwest along the grade 2,300 feet; then north to I-75; then northwest along I-75 for 1,100 feet; then north and east by contour to Leetana Road at a point approximately 1,500 feet south of Rich Road; then north along Leetana for 400 feet; then northeast and north by contour to Rich Road; then east along Rich Road for 1,500 feet; then north, east and north by contour to the northwest corner of the watershed.

The above description is provided as general information only and does not constitute a legal description. See the watershed boundary map on page 21-WM for details of the boundary.
