Popash Creek

The Popash Creek Watershed is located in the north central area of Lee County. It is approximately nine square miles in size with four square miles in Lee County and five square miles in Charlotte County. The trunk originates at the Caloosahatchee approximately 1,000' west of I-75. The watershed is approximately one mile wide and nine miles long. It is located between the Bayshore Creek Watershed and the Stroud Creek Watershed.

The watershed boundary has not changed significantly since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering. Although not substantial, some minor boundary revisions with adjacent watersheds have been made since the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan."

Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are no significant structural flow crossings along the watershed boundary. The ditch along the north side of Nalle Grade interconnects Bayshore, Popash and Daughtrey Creek-East Branch watersheds as an equalizer. The Popash Creek trunk remains a natural channel which has seen little modification.

A general description of the Popash Creek Watershed boundary within Lee County is as follows: from a point on the north line of Section 4, Township 43 South, Range 25 East that is 3,300 feet east of the northwest corner, continue east for 5,800 feet; then south for 2,000 feet; then west for 1,000 feet; then south for 5,400 feet; then east for 200 feet; then south for 400 feet; then east for 700 feet; then south for 400 feet; then east for 400 feet; then south for 800 feet; then west for 500 feet; then south for 900 feet; then west to Nalle Road; then south along Nalle Road to SR 78; then south and southeast by contour to the north bank of the Caloosahatchee; then generally west along the north bank of the Caloosahatchee to a point approximately 500 feet west of the east line of Section 28, Township 43 South, Range 25 East; then north and northwest by contour to a point on SR 78 approximately 2,600 feet west of the trunk; then west along SR 78 for 1,300 feet; then north for 1,500 feet; then north and northeast by contour to and across I-75, continue northeast by contour to Leetana Road; then north on Leetana for 1,000 feet; then west along Leetana 500 feet; then northeast for 1,000 feet; then east to a point approximately 2,500 feet west of the channel; then north, northwest and north by contour to Rich Road, approximately 2,700 feet west of the east line of Section 16, Township 43 South, Range 25 East; then northeast to a point on Henderson Grade approximately 1,300 feet west of the east line of Section 9, Township 43 South, Range 25 East; then north to the east-west alignment of Welborn Road; then west 700 feet along Welborn Road; then north to the Lee-Charlotte County line.
