Kickapoo Creek

The Kickapoo Creek Watershed is located in the north central area of Lee County. It is slightly less than one square mile in size. The trunk originates at the Caloosahatchee, approximately 1,000 feet west of SR 31. Kickapoo is approximately one mile wide in its lower reaches and approximately a quarter of a mile wide in its upper reaches. It is located east of the Palm Creek Watershed and west of the Owl Creek Watershed.

The watershed boundary has changed significantly since the "Lee County Interim Surface Management Plan." An area of about 0.4 square miles in the southwest portion of the watershed is now considered to be coastal drainage. Also, approximately 0.7 square miles from the northeast portion and 25 acres from the southeast portion of the watershed are now considered part of the coastal drainage area that already existed between the Kickapoo Creek and Owl Creek watersheds. The net result of these changes has reduced the overall area of the watershed by slightly more than one square mile.

Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are no significant structural flow crossings along the watershed boundary. The Kickapoo Creek trunk has been modified in the Lee County Civic Center area. The channel now includes lakes and ponds constructed for drainage of the area.

A general description of the Kickapoo Creek Watershed boundary is as follows: beginning on Ruden Lane approximately 4,200 feet west of SR 31 run south for approximately 3,700 feet; then southeast for 1,400 feet; then run northeast and southeast by contour to Old Bayshore Road approximately 2,500 feet south of Deal Road; then run south along Old Bayshore Road for 1,200 feet; then east and southeast by contour to SR 31 approximately 1,000 feet north of SR 78; then run south for 1,000 feet to SR 78; then southwest along SR 78 for approximately 1,400 feet; then south to the north bank of the Caloosahatchee; then west along the north bank of the Caloosahatchee for 100 feet; then northwest for 650 feet to a point on SR 78 approximately 500 feet west of the channel; then run southwest along SR 78 for approximately 1,300 feet; then north for 800 feet; then west for 1,800 feet; then generally west and northwest to a point on Palm Creek Drive approximately 6,000 feet south of Deal Road; then run generally northeast, north, and northeast by contour to Ruden Lane approximately 4,200 feet west of SR 31.

The above description is provided as general information only and does not constitute a legal description. See the watershed boundary map at the end of this section for details of the boundary.
