Trout Creek
The Trout Creek Watershed is located in the north central area of Lee County. It is approximately 33 square miles in size including the six square mile area of the tributary Owl Creek Watershed. Of the remaining 27 square mile area specific to Trout Creek, 7.5 square miles are within Lee County and the remainder is in Charlotte County. This report will focus on the 7.5 square miles within Lee County. The trunk originates at the Caloosahatchee approximately 3,000 feet east of SR 31. The watershed is approximately one mile wide at the Caloosahatchee and four miles wide at the Lee-Charlotte County line. The watershed is generally located between the Kickapoo Creek and Owl Creek watersheds to the west and the Otter Creek and Telegraph Creek watersheds to the east.
The watershed boundary has changed somewhat since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering. An area within Lee County, west of SR 31, is no longer considered a part of this watershed. Additionally, some areas formerly part of the Otter Creek Watershed are now within the Trout Creek Watershed. The south and east watershed boundary has been refined somewhat from the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan." This revision has produced a net reduction of approximately 140 acres in the Lee County portion of the watershed.
Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are no significant structural flow crossings along the watershed boundary. The Trout Creek trunk remains essentially a natural channel which has seen little modification.
A general description of the Trout Creek Watershed boundary within Lee County is as follows: beginning at the intersection of the Lee-Charlotte County line and SR 31 run east to a point approximately 500 feet east of the northwest corner of Section 2, Township 43 South, Range 26 East; then generally south, southwest and south by contour to North River Road at a point approximately 1,000 feet east of the northwest corner of Section 16, Township 43 South, Range 26 East; then generally south and west by contour to the mouth of the creek; then crossing the creek northwest, northeast and north by contour to North River Road at a point approximately 1,300 feet west of the northeast corner of Section 18, Township 43 South, Range 26 East; then continue north, northeast and northwest by contour to SR 31 at a point approximately 300 feet south of the northwest corner of Section 7, Township 43 South, Range 26 East; then north along SR 31 to the Lee County line.
