Owl Creek
The Owl Creek Watershed is located in the north central area of Lee County. It is slightly less than six square miles in size with approximately two and a half square miles in Lee County and three and a half square miles in Charlotte County. The trunk originates at Trout Creek approximately 1,400 feet upstream from the Caloosahatchee. The Owl Creek Watershed is approximately 2,000 feet wide in its lower reaches and approximately 3,300 feet at the Lee-Charlotte County line. It is located east of the Palm Creek and Kickapoo Creek Watersheds and west of the Trout Creek Watershed.
The watershed boundary has not changed significantly since the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan." Some refinement to the boundaries with adjacent watersheds has been made. The boundary between the Owl Creek Watershed and the Palm Creek Watershed has undergone some modification due to further study. A portion of the southwest part of the watershed is now considered to be coastal drainage. Approximately one-half of an acre located on the southwest corner of the intersection at Ruden Lane and SR 31 is now included in the Owl Creek Watershed.
Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are no significant structural flow crossings along the watershed boundary. The Owl Creek trunk remains a natural channel which has seen little modification.
A general description of the Owl Creek Watershed boundary within Lee County is as follows: beginning on the Lee-Charlotte County line approximately 2,000 feet east of the northwest corner of Section 1, Township 43 South, Range 25 East run east for approximately 3,400 feet to SR 31; then south for 5,800 feet to a point approximately 2,200 feet north of Shirley Lane; then run southeast and south by contour to a point 500 feet west of the west line of Section 8, Township 43 South, Range 26 East and 900 feet north of North River Road; then southwest, west, and south by contour to the intersection of Boatworks Road and North River Road; then run south along Boatworks Road for approximately 3,500 feet; then southwest for 1,200 feet to a point approximately 50 feet north of the Owl Creek channel and 100 feet east of the Owl Creek channel; then run southwest for 200 feet crossing the Owl Creek channel; then generally northwest by contour to the intersection of North River Road and SR 31; then run north along SR 31 for approximately 700 feet to a point 300 feet south of Ruden Road; then northwest by contour to a point on Ruden Lane 1,200 feet west of SR 31; then west along Ruden Lane for 3,000 feet; then north for 5,500 feet; then run northwest, northeast, north and northwest by contour to the Lee-Charlotte County line.
