Otter Creek
The Otter Creek Watershed is located in the northeast area of Lee County. It is approximately one square mile in size. The trunk originates at the Caloosahatchee River approximately 2.7 miles east of SR 31. The watershed is approximately one quarter mile wide at the Caloosahatchee and about 4,500 feet wide at its widest point. It is a little more than one-half mile long. This watershed is located between the Trout Creek Watershed and the Telegraph Creek Watershed.
The watershed boundary has been revised since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering and the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan." The eastern half of the watershed, as shown in the Interim Plan, is now considered to be a separate unnamed watershed approximately one square mile in size. See Section 6, Hydrology for further explanatory text.
Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. The only structural flow crossing along the watershed boundary are the 2-30" RCP's under CR 78. The Otter Creek trunk remains essentially a natural channel which has seen little modification.
A general description of the Otter Creek Watershed boundary is as follows: beginning 1,000 feet east of the northwest corner of Section 16, Township 43 South, Range 26 East continue east along North River Road for 1,000 feet; then generally north and east by contour to a point 3,000 feet north of North River Road and approximately 3,100 feet east of the west line of Section 9, Township 32 South, Range 26 East; then continue in a generally east direction for 2,500 feet; then southwest for 600 feet to the east line of Section 9; then south to the southeast corner of Section 9; then west to North River Road; then southeast and south along North River Road to the intersection with North Olga Road; then continue south for 400 feet; then west for 1,800 feet; then generally south by contour to the North Bank of the Caloosahatchee; then west along the north bank of the Caloosahatchee; then generally northwest and north by contour to North River Road.
The above description is provided as general information only and does not constitute a legal description. See the watershed boundary map on page 28-WM for details of the boundary.
