 Bedman Creek

The Bedman Creek Watershed is located along the east Lee County line south of the Caloosahatchee. It is approximately 30 square miles in size with 3.5 square miles in Hendry County and 26.5 square miles in Lee County. The watershed trunk originates at the Caloosahatchee approximately 2,000 feet east of the Broadway Street bridge. The watershed is a combination of two rectangular pieces connected with a canal. Each piece is approximately 2.5 miles wide. The northern section is approximately seven miles long and the southern piece is approximately five miles long. A very small piece of the watershed is located on the south side of SR 82 in Lee County adjacent to the Lee-Hendry County line. This watershed is located along the eastern Lee County line and is east of both the Hickey Creek and Orange River watersheds.

The watershed boundary has changed somewhat since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering and the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan." The net result is an increase in watershed area of slightly more than one square mile.

Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are no significant structural flow crossings along the watershed boundary. Portions of the watershed boundary follow the East County Water Control District permitted boundary. The Bedman Creek main trunk remains a natural channel up to its confluence with Dog Canal. This canal is a major conveyance element for the Bedman Creek Watershed and is part of the East County Water Control District.

A general description of the Bedman Creek Watershed boundary within Lee County is as follows: beginning approximately 1,000 feet east of the channel and 500 feet north of SR 80, run southeast by contour across SR 80 and to the Lee-Hendry County line at the northeast corner of Section 36, Township 43 South, Range 27 East; then run south along the Lee-Hendry County line to the southeast corner of Section 36, Township 45 South, Range 27 East; then west to the southwest corner of Section 36; then north to SR 82; then northwest along SR 82 to Alexander Graham Bell Boulevard; then north along Alexander Graham Bell Boulevard to Sunrise Boulevard; then east along Sunrise to Columbus Boulevard; then north on Columbus Boulevard to Sentinela Boulevard; then east along Sentinela Boulevard to the channel; then north approximately 1,000 feet; then northwest to the intersection of E. 2nd Avenue and Wells Street; then west along E. 2nd Avenue to the west line of Section 35, Township 44 South, Range 27 East; then north to Joel Boulevard; then continue north along Joel Boulevard to a point on the East County Water Control District boundary line approximately 1,000 feet south of the northwest corner of Section 2, Township 44 South, Range 27 East; then west for approximately 1,800 feet; then north, generally by contour, across SR 80 to the south bank of the Caloosahatchee.

The above description is provided as general information only and does not constitute a legal description. See the watershed boundary map on page 37-WM for details of the boundary.
