Hickey Creek
The Hickey Creek Watershed is located in the east central area of Lee County. It is approximately 27.5 square miles in size. The watershed trunk originates at the Caloosahatchee approximately 3.7 miles west of the Broadway Street bridge over the Caloosahatchee. The watershed is approximately 5 miles wide by 4.5 miles long with an additional 5 square mile area to the west. This watershed is generally located west of the Bedman Creek Watershed, east of the Olga Watershed and north and east of the Orange River Watershed.
The watershed boundary has not changed significantly since the 1979 "Water Management Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering or since the "Lee County Interim Surface Water Management Plan."
Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are no significant structural flow crossings along the watershed boundary. Portions of the watershed boundary follow the East County Water Control District permitted boundary. The Hickey Creek main trunk remains a natural channel up to its confluence with the Hickey Creek Drainageway canal. This canal is a major conveyance element for the Hickey Creek Watershed.
A general description of the Hickey Creek Watershed boundary is as follows. Beginning at the confluence of the east bank of the main trunk with the Caloosahatchee, run southeast by contour to SR 80 to a point approximately 1,500 feet east of the channel; then run southeast along SR 80 to a point approximately 800 feet west of Joel Boulevard; then run south and east by contour to a point on Joel Boulevard approximately 1,000 feet south of the northeast corner of Section 3, Township 44 South, Range 27 East; then south along Joel Boulevard to West 10th Street; then west along West 10th Street to the west line of Section 19, Township 44 South, Range 27 East; then north along the west line of Section 19 to the intersection with Baker Canal; then run southwest and west to a point 800 feet east and 400 feet south of the northwest corner of Section 24, Township 44 South, Range 26 East; then run north to Joan Avenue; then continue north along Joan Avenue to 53rd Street; then west along 53rd Street to the west line of Section 11, Township 44 South, Range 26 East; then north to the northwest corner of Section 11; then west along Cemetery Road to the southwest corner of Section 3, Township 44 South, Range 26 East; then north to the East County Water Control District boundary; then east along the boundary to a point 500 feet east of the northeast corner of Section 2, Township 44 South, Range 26 East; then generally north by contour to SR 80 at a point approximately 700 feet west of Hickey Creek Road; then east along SR 80 for 2,500 feet; then north and east by contour to the confluence of the main channel and the Caloosahatchee.
