  Oak Creek

The Oak Creek Watershed is located in the southwest area of Lee County. It is slightly less than two square miles in size. The trunk originates at the Imperial River, one-half mile west of Business 41. The Oak Creek Watershed is approximately one-half mile wide in its lower reaches and approximately one to two miles wide in its upper reaches.

The watershed boundary has changed significantly since the 1979 "Water Management in Lee County" report by Johnson Engineering, Inc. Significant improvements were made that deleted areas within Collier County. Overall, the changes reduced the area of the watershed by approximately six square miles at the time of the Interim report. Further refinements of the watershed boundary with adjacent watersheds reduced the overall area by an additional two square miles.

Johnson Engineering utilized a number of verification methods including on-the-ground reconnaissance to generally confirm the watershed boundary presented in this report. There are overflows in the watershed boundary that can occur under flood conditions. The overflow along Lime Street and the power line grade south of Bonita Beach Road allow flow from the Imperial River Watershed located east of the Oak Creek Watershed. The overflow at the intersection of Bonita Beach Road and the power line grade allows flow from the northeast into the Oak Creek Watershed. The hydraulic capacity of the creek has been reduced by vegetative obstructions in the channel.

A general description of the Oak Creek Watershed boundary is as follows: beginning at a point on the south bank of the Imperial River approximately 300 feet west of the channel, run east along the south bank of the Imperial for 400 feet; then southeast and east by contour to Business 41 approximately 2,200 feet south of the Imperial; then south along Business 41 for 450 feet to Dean Street; then run east along Dean Street for approximately 5,100 feet to the intersection of Dean Street and Imperial Street; then south along Imperial Street for 1,800 feet to a point 400 feet south of the intersection of Imperial Street and Bonita Beach Road; then east for 2,500 feet to the power line grade; then run south along the power line grade for approximately 4,600 feet to a point approximately 200 feet north of the Lee-Collier County line; then west for 6,500 feet; then north for 2,600 feet; then southwest for 300 feet; then northwest for 1,900 feet; then west for 550 feet to a point on Business 41 approximately 1,100 feet south of Bonita Beach Road; then run southwest along Business 41 for 1,400 feet; then northwest for 1,200 feet to a point 1,200 feet west of Business 41 and 1,000 feet south of Bonita Beach Road; then northwest for approximately 1,450 feet to a point on Bonita Beach Road approximately 2,900 feet west of Business 41; then run west along Bonita Beach Road for 950 feet to Wisconsin Avenue; then north along Wisconsin Avenue for 1,300 feet to Alabama Street; then east along Alabama Street for approximately 1,000 feet to Greyhound Lane; then north for 350 feet to Carolina Street; then east along Carolina Street for 600 feet to Washington Street; then north along Washington Street for 650 feet to Tennessee Street; then southeast along Tennessee Street for approximately 1,500 feet to the south bank of the Imperial.
